Sun Cellular's 50-Peso Special Load Scratch Card

The Next Generation Broadband service from Sun Cellular can be availed prepaid by loading the plug-and-play device through a Special Load Scratch Card that comes in 25-, 50-, 100-, and 250-peso denominations.


Unlimited Internet access with speed of up to 3.6 Mbps can be obtained for 24 hours by loading the nine-digit Data Card No. and the five-digit Data Card PIN from the fifty-peso card.

One hundred and fifty-one years ago today, our national hero Jose Rizal was born in Calamba, Laguna.  Rizal's stature as the Philippines' national hero resulted in his presence in many items of daily living: matches, coins, cement, name it...


Rizal's life has been a subject in film since the inception of Philippine cinema.  The most notable of which was GMA Network Films' production in 1998.  Cesar Montano did the honor of portraying our national hero, under the direction of Marilou Diaz-Abaya.


In 2006, the movie was released in DVD format by GMA Records Home Video:

Dolphy's Father Roles in Movies

I  support the call to proclaim the Philippines' King of Comedy, Rodolfo Vera Quizon, Sr., popularly known as Dolphy as a National Artist for Film.  With a showbiz career that spans almost seven decades, Dolphy deserves the accolades. The condition of his health is very delicate nowadays, and I am one of those who hope for his recovery.


In celebration of Father's Day and as a tribute to Dolphy, let us recall some films in which he played father roles. The titles include the word 'tatay' or 'father.'

The Malolos Cathedral

In commemoration of the 114^th anniversary of the independence of the Philippine Republic today, I will share some pictures of a prominent historical site in the City of Malolos in the province of Bulacan, the Basilica Minore of Immaculate Conception, more popularly known as the Malolos Cathedral.

The cathedral (then known as the Malolos Church) served as the Presidential Palace of President Emilio Aguinaldo during the First Philippine Republic from September 15,1898 to March 31,1899.  The convent of the church was used by Aguinaldo as his Office.

Barasoain Church: Cradle of the Republic

The 114^th anniversary of the independence of the Philippine Republic is being celebrated today. Considering that Malolos was the seat of this Republic, I will be sharing some pictures of the historical shrine Barasoain Church.

The First Philippine Congress convened there on September 15, 1898.  The church also saw the drafting of the Malolos Constitution from September 29, 1898 to January 21, 1899.  The First Philippine Republic was inaugurated there on January 23, 1899. Barasoain Church was declared a National Shrine by virtue of Presidential Decree No. 260 on August 1, 1973.

Items related to Filipino culture fascinate me. Realizing that our country is commemorating Independence Day on June 12, I made an inventory of my T-shirts that highlight Filipiniana. The collection might be small in size, but I feel big in pride presenting how these shirts look:

Pinoy Pride Notebooks

June is back-to-school time for many students in our beloved Philippines.  It is the season for last-minute shopping spree for school supplies.  Even though I am not a schoolboy anymore, I still buy these supplies for my work- and leisure-related activities.

Now, I will show notebooks that made me admire the manufacturer, Advance Paper Corporation.  Considering that the our republic is commemorating Independence Day on June 12, Advance Paper's release of the Pinoy Pride series of notebooks is very commendable.

Notebooks from the Bulacan Provincial Capitol

Its back-to-school time for millions of students in the Philippines, and the search for school supplies will become more intense for students and parents alike. In the province of Bulacan, however, the search for notebooks will be apparently lessened for those studying in public schools.

The front cover of the notebooks to be distributed bear the image of provincial governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado and vice governor Daniel R. Fernando.  The Tagalog phrase "Lalawigan Ko'y Ikaw, Lingkod Mo Ako" roughly translates to English as "My Province  is You, Your Servant is I."

Meet Manila's Tertulia Night

The "Tertulia Night: Meet Manila's Launch Party" held on May 23, 2012 at the Adarna Food and Culture is an event that seamlessly combined tourism promotion, social advocacy, and sumptuous food.  These goals, I think, were attained despite the power outage that hampered the technical aspects of the program.  

Hilarious Scene from "Bagets"

Bagets (1984) is one of the well-known films in Philippine cinema. The title is derived from the Tagalog word bagito, which translates to 'newbie' or 'young' in English.  A box-office hit, this film's portrayal of issues commonly tackled by the youth, guaranteed wide patronage.  Bagets boosted the careers of  actors William Martinez, Herbert Bautista, J.C. Bonnin, Raymond Lauchengco, and Aga Muhlach.

I will be focusing, however, on a hilarious scene featuring a cameo role of the acclaimed actor Rafael "Bembol" Roco, Jr.

In this scene, Tonton (played by Martinez) and Arnel (played by Lauchengco) went outside the clinic where Gilbert (played by Bautista) is being circumcised.

Tonton saw a vendor (played by Roco) selling young coconuts (buko in Tagalog).  Along with Arnel, they approached the vendor's cart.  In his excitement, Tonton mistook the vendor's head for a coconut.
