The juice from the green fruits of this shrub can be made into a refreshing beverage. Other culinary applications include the combination of the juice with condiments such as toyo (soy sauce) and patis (fish sauce).
As a laundry aid, the juice can also help in removing stains from clothes.

Calamansi in your own backyard. How convenient! :D How big does the shrub grow? Can I grow this in just a pot or can?
ReplyDeleteA big flower pot (about 2-feet high, 1-feet high) will do.
DeleteCalamansi - small but terrific! :p
ReplyDeleteI agree, because it is so useful.
Deletewe have a lot of these on our farm. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's very nice !!!
DeleteI bet there are a lot other fruit-bearing trees on your farm.
I was taught back in college (I was a fashion design grad) about using the calamansi as an effective stain removing agent on clothes. :)
ReplyDelete... and it's environment-friendly. :)
Deleteif there will be a plant in our house, i'd like it to be a calamansi shrub! :)
ReplyDeleteFind a seedling, and plant in now. :)
DeleteMasarap toh pag shinake haha shake! lalot may asukal sarap!
ReplyDeleteWith the sweltering heat, I'll gonna give it a try. Maiba naman ang pampalamig. :)
DeleteWe have one too in our backyard :) its better to plant than to buy them with high prices.
ReplyDeleteThe calamansi fruits help in cost-cutting. :)
DeleteWow! I think I have to start planting calamansi in our backyard too :)
ReplyDeleteI suggest that if there's ample space, plant calamansi and other fruit-bearing trees. :)
Deletei so love calamnsi!! i put them into my green teas xx
ReplyDeleteThat's new to me, because I always drink calamansi juice that was prepared like lemonade.
DeleteI'll try it !!! :)
Wow, that's very convenient to have calamansi in your own backyard! :D We often use calamansi too. Now, if only we can plant our own calamansi.. XD
ReplyDeleteWe are thankful about this calamansi shrub. It is small, yet generous. :)
Deleteits also like a wonder fruit because it has many uses. I often use calamansi in my son's daily bath, accordingly its good for the skin (pampakinis)
ReplyDeleteYes, it's very useful.
Deletei have a funny love story with calamansi. it involved abusing several calamansi seedlings for our science project in 2nd year high school, and we poured horse steroids to see if it'd grow taller, larger, bear more fruit, etc. the most funny result was that the shrub "shrunk", a negative growth if you may. our teacher had a hearty laugh with this finding. from that mistake, now we know how to record data.
ReplyDeleteThat's what we can call the 'calamansi lesson.' :)
Deletewe had one back at our old place. pero dito wala na :(
ReplyDeleteThat's sad. :(
DeleteHow about buying seedlings for planting in your new place? :)
You can also use it as a hair treatment especially if you have dandruff, and as a whitener to those dark skin areas.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the advice. I'll use the fruits as whitener. :D
DeleteI bought a calamansi plant and for a time it showed potential to grow fruits. I transferred it in a bigger pot but it stopped growing. I see that your calamansi has grown big and it seems I need to remove it from the pot if I want to see it bear fruits again. Too bad I live in a condo. :(
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time that the calamansi we planted gave us fruits.
DeleteHow about placing the pot the near the windows, so the shrub can get adequate sunlight? :)
we don't kalamansi in the US .I really miss it for my fried chicken marinate.
ReplyDeleteYeah, fried chicken tastes better if marinated in calamansi juice.
Deletewow, growing your own calamansi looks really convenient should food preparations and seasonings need it. :)
ReplyDeletei can also imagine the almost unlimited calamansi juice you could make :D
Nice and convenient living, fruits like calamansi are just meters away from the dining table. We do have calamasi fruits as well around our house in the province, not the modern breed ones and they are not in the pots, most of them are two meters high. We used to climbed and pick the right ones to make calamansi juice. Nostalgic again with the life in the farm.
ReplyDeletelove calamansi juice, natural kasi and all year round ang bunga... Yahweh bless.
ReplyDelete... powerful drink talaga ang calamansi!.. would love to have a backyard full of fruits and veggies!:))
ReplyDeletedrinking water with calamansi is very healthy for it makes our body alkaline (contrary to a popular belief that calamansi is acidic)
ReplyDeleteCalamansi...
ReplyDeleteso versatile that we can use
it not only in cooking but even in
keeping our skin soft and white.
i just recently bough 2 calamansi shrubs, and each shrub already has some small calamansi fruits in it. I transferred both in a big pot. I do hope, it'll continue to grow those small fruits, and looking forward to harvest it soon!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the good writeup. It in truth was once a entertainment account it. Look complex to far introduced agreeable from you! By the way, how can we communicate?
